World’s Smallest Media Kit
This is creative. Yamaha is now distributing USB keys as media kits. I think it makes perfect sense. Even with a modest storage capacity of 32MB, you could easily fill the device with all the materials you would normally stuff in a hard copy kit (e.g., press releases, fact sheets, data sheets, etc.). Plus the digital format allows you to easily include flash presentations, images and graphs, and perhaps even product demos. Pretty cool, if you consider the hassle and awkwardness of paper-based media kits compared to a device the size of a stick of gum.
Update: Shortly after I posted this piece, I received a note from Mike Walker at The Walker Agency, the marketing firm behind this media kit idea. According to Mike, while the cost of USB devices is still high, overall the response to this approach has been very positive.
