PRSA Workshop on Blogs & PR Today

I blogged about this earlier in the month, but I'll be attending PRSA's workshop on Blogs & PR this afternoon. Phil Gomes with the Dryden Marketing Group will be speaking which should be very interesting. More info here.

Update: I've gott'a hand it to Phil, he had a tough crowd today. The audience ran the gamut from blogging newbies to more seasoned folk, yet IMO he still did a good job of touching on key themes. Honestly, I didn't agree with all of his recommendations, particularly his thought that corporate blogs should not allow comments. Look no further than the Yahoo! Search Blog for evidence that big companies can successfully participate and engage with their online communities via comments -- and look no further than the Google Blog to see how unengaging (and unsuccessful) non-participation can be.

I think one of the biggest takeaways from Phil's presentation is that PR people need to actively listen and observe the blogosphere first before they even begin to consider how they might participate. More on this here.

Comments

I too believe that corporate blogs should have the option to allow comments, otherwise blogs become bottlenecked and somewhat boring. But what do you do when those comments get out of hand or turn into a teenage chat room? How can we prevent this?
